The Silent Regression

The Mana Curse is not a sudden cataclysm but a slow, systemic bleed. For the past thousand years—roughly coinciding with the decline of Majapahit and the rise of Islam—the ambient spiritual energy in the Nusantara archipelago has been steadily declining.

This is not a natural cycle. Historical records from the Srivijaya era describe warriors who could leap across rivers, shamans who could summon rain with a whisper, and kings who communicated with the spirits of volcanoes. Today, such feats are dismissed as “myth” or “exaggeration.” But they were real. The curse made them impossible.

The Mechanism

How does the curse work?

  1. Mana Siphoning: The earth’s core—specifically the Fourth Realm—acts as a mana sink. Instead of radiating outward to nourish all living beings, mana is drawn inward toward the sealed realm.
  2. Spiritual Atrophy: As surface mana decreases, human bodies have biologically adapted to require less mana. This is why modern humans cannot perform the feats of their ancestors—not because they lack talent, but because their spiritual “muscles” have atrophied.
  3. Historical Gaslighting: The gods and their priestly allies actively rewrote history to make it seem as though humans were always weak. The Buddhist and Shaivite texts that survive today emphasize “meditation over action”—a convenient doctrine that discourages humans from seeking external power.

Who Cast the Curse?

The curse was not cast by a single entity but was a collective judgment. It is directly tied to the Verdict of Severance—a ruling by the council of major deities (led by Batara Guru) after the human rebellion of the early Majapahit era.

The goal was twofold:

  • Control: Weaker humans are easier to govern and less likely to challenge the divine order.
  • Hide the Fourth Realm: The heavy concentration of mana in the lower depths masks the existence of the Fourth Realm from detection. If surface mana were too high, the concealment spell would break.

Symptoms of the Curse

For the modern population, the curse manifests as:

  • Apathy: A general disinterest in spiritual matters, treated as “superstition.”
  • Amnesia: A collective inability to recall the true power of pre-Majapahit ancestors.
  • Dependency: Reliance on external tools (weapons, technology) rather than internal spiritual cultivation.

The only exceptions are certain isolated communities—such as the Balinese and the shamans of Sulawesi—who retain fragments of the old power. But even they are diminishing.

The Break Point

The curse is not permanent. It operates like a rubber band—stretched to its limit. The 210-day-contract maintains the tension. If the contract is broken, the curse will snap, releasing a catastrophic burst of raw mana from the Fourth Realm, either destroying everything or initiating a new “Mana Renaissance.”

诅咒的症状

对现代人群而言，诅咒表现为：

  • 冷漠：对灵性事务普遍漠不关心，视其为“迷信”。
  • 失忆：集体无法回忆起满者伯夷前祖先的真实力量。
  • 依赖：依赖外部工具（武器、科技），而非内部灵性修炼。

破局点

Catatan sejarah dari era Srivijaya menggambarkan prajurit yang bisa melompati sungai, dukun yang bisa memanggil hujan dengan bisikan, dan raja yang berkomunikasi dengan roh gunung berapi. Saat ini, prestasi semacam itu dianggap sebagai “mitos” atau “melebih-lebihkan.” Tapi itu nyata. Kutukan membuatnya menjadi tidak mungkin.

Mekanismenya

Bagaimana kutukan bekerja?

  • Kontrol: Manusia yang lebih lemah lebih mudah diatur dan kecil kemungkinannya untuk menantang tatanan ilahi.
  • Sembunyikan Alam Keempat: Konsentrasi mana yang berat di kedalaman bawah menyembunyikan keberadaan Alam Keempat dari deteksi. Jika mana permukaan terlalu tinggi, mantra penyembunyian akan pecah.

Gejala Kutukan

Bagi populasi modern, kutukan ini bermanifestasi sebagai:

  • Apati: Ketidaktertarikan umum pada hal-hal spiritual, yang dianggap sebagai “takhayul.”
  • Amnesia: Ketidakmampuan kolektif untuk mengingat kekuatan sebenarnya dari leluhur pra-Majapahit.
