Sekala-Niskala is the Balinese cosmological framework that describes the two simultaneous layers of reality — the visible world (sekala) and the invisible world (niskala). The concept is fundamental to Balinese-Hindu philosophy. It explains why rituals are performed, why offerings are made, and why the seen world cannot be understood without reference to the unseen. The mana-curse disrupted the relationship between sekala and niskala.
