The Lost Capital
Plered is a historical city in Central Java, once the capital of the Mataram Sultanate from 1645 to 1677. It was a royal city that witnessed the height of Mataram’s power and the beginning of its decline, before being abandoned after the Trunajaya Rebellion, leaving behind ruins that still speak of the glory and tragedy of Javanese kingship.

The Royal City
Plered was built by Sultan Amangkurat I as the new capital of the Mataram Sultanate. The city was designed as a royal fortress, with walls, gates, and a palace. It was the center of Javanese political and spiritual power for over thirty years.
The Decline
In 1677, the Trunajaya Rebellion devastated the city. The palace was burned, and the court fled to Kartasura. Plered was abandoned and gradually fell into ruin.
