Amangkurat I

English (EN)

Amangkurat I (c. 1619–1677) was the fourth sultan of the Mataram Sultanate, reigning from 1645 to 1677. His reign was marked by brutality, paranoia, and betrayal—actions that alienated his subjects and ultimately provoked the Trunajaya Rebellion (1674–1679), which would destroy his kingdom and pave the way for Dutch colonial domination of Java.
