Nusantara (lit. “archipelago” in Javanese) is Indonesia’s new capital city, currently under construction in East Kalimantan on the island of Borneo. Announced by President Joko Widodo in 2019, the project aims to relocate the capital from Jakarta, which is sinking, polluted, and overpopulated.
