Story Hook: The King’s Stone
In 732 CE, King Sanjaya stood on the hill of Kunjarakunja. He commanded his scribes to carve a stone inscription that would record his devotion to Shiva and his establishment of a temple on the hill. He looked out over the plain below and said: “This place will be sacred. The temple I build here will stand for a thousand years. The gods will bless this land.”
“Let this stone record my devotion to Shiva. Let it stand for a thousand years. Let those who read it know that this land is sacred, that this kingdom is blessed, that the gods watch over us.” — King Sanjaya
