Kudus is a city in Central Java, located on the north coast of the island of Java. It is historically significant as the center of the Wali Songo missionary activity and the site of the tomb of Sunan Kudus, one of the nine Islamic saints who spread Islam across Java.

Sunan Kudus
Sunan Kudus was a member of the Wali Songo who is revered for his syncretic approach to Islamic conversion. He allowed Hindu-Javanese practices to continue alongside Islamic teaching, as seen in the Menara Kudus Mosque, which features architecture that blends Islamic, Hindu, and Javanese elements.
Kretek Industry
Kudus is known as the “City of Kretek” because of its clove cigarette industry. Kretek—clove-scented cigarettes—was first developed in Kudus in the late 19th century and remains a major industry.
