The Musi River is a major river in South Sumatra, flowing through the city of Palembang and emptying into the Bangka Strait. It was the heart of the Srivijaya maritime empire, which dominated the Malacca Strait trade from the 7th to the 13th centuries. The river remains a vital artery for trade and transportation in Sumatra.
