Palembang is the capital of South Sumatra, Indonesia. With a population of 1.67 million, it is the second-largest city in sumatra and one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, with a history dating back over a millennium.

Historical Significance

Palembang was the capital of the Srivijaya Empire, a powerful Buddhist maritime kingdom that dominated Southeast Asian trade from the 7th to the 13th centuries. The city’s role as a center of Buddhist learning attracted scholars from across the region.

Modern City

Today, Palembang is a modern city known for the iconic Ampera Bridge and its culinary specialty, Pempek (fish cakes served with sweet and sour sauce).
