On 1 January 1965, Indonesia dramatically withdrew from the United Nations. It was a protest against the admission of Malaysia as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. This was the peak of President Sukarno’s “confrontation” policy against Malaysia and against Western neo-colonialism.
