The Sukarno Era covers the period from 1945 to 1967, when sukarno served as Indonesia’s first president.

In 1959, Sukarno introduced Guided Democracy, centralizing power in the presidency and limiting parliamentary influence.

Sukarno spearheaded the Non-Aligned Movement and established close ties with the Soviet Union, China, and the US.

He opposed the formation of Malaysia in 1963, leading to the Konfrontasi conflict with Malaysia and the UK.

The 1965 coup attempt triggered a violent anti-communist purge, leading to Sukarno’s gradual loss of power. He was replaced by suharto in 1967.
