The Six-Hour Attack That Changed Everything

The General Offensive of 1 March 1949 was a six-hour offensive by Indonesian TNI forces against Dutch-occupied Yogyakarta. Though a tactical defeat, it was a massive propaganda victory that proved to the world that Indonesian resistance was still alive.

Background

On 19 December 1948, the Dutch launched Operation Kraai (Operation Crow) — the Second Dutch Military Aggression[reference:57]. They captured Yogyakarta, the temporary capital of the Republic, and arrested Sukarno and Hatta[reference:58].

The Indonesian leadership was in captivity. The TNI was scattered. But the resistance continued.
