The Counter-Attack That Shook the Dutch
The Battle of Magelang (January 1949) was a significant counter-attack by Indonesian forces against Dutch-occupied positions in Magelang, Central Java. It was part of the broader guerrilla campaign launched by General Sudirman following the second-dutch-aggression .
Background
After the Dutch captured Yogyakarta on 19 December 1948, the Indonesian leadership scattered. General sudirman escaped into the jungle and ordered a nationwide guerrilla campaign against Dutch forces.
