Nasi Goreng
English (EN)
Nasi Goreng is Indonesia’s iconic fried rice dish. It is made from leftover rice—cooked overnight—fried with sweet soy sauce (kecap manis), shallots, garlic, chili, and a choice of protein (chicken, shrimp, or beef). It is typically served with a fried egg (telur ceplok) on top and a side of prawn crackers (kerupuk).
Considered Indonesia’s unofficial national dish, nasi goreng is eaten across the archipelago—from street stalls to high-end restaurants. It is a breakfast staple, a late-night comfort food, and a celebration dish.
