The Nagarakretagama is a 14th-century Javanese manuscript written by Mpu Prapanca in 1365. It is one of the most important primary sources on the Majapahit Empire and was added to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register in 2013.
Content
The manuscript provides a detailed description of the Majapahit Empire, its territories, vassal states, and the reign of King Hayam Wuruk. It includes descriptions of royal ceremonies, religious practices, and the administrative structure of the empire.
Significance
The Nagarakretagama is the only comprehensive Javanese text from the Majapahit period that survives. It is a critical source for understanding the political and cultural history of pre-colonial Indonesia.
